The Inverurie Scout Group will be running the 2020 Inverurie Charity Raft Race from Kemnay to Inverurie on Sunday, June 7 for the second time.

Their inaugural outing as organisers of the Raft Race last year was a resounding success with 18 rafts taking part.

The Scout Group was completely bowled over by the support they received on the day and the funds raised.

The proceeds from the race were shared between two designated charities - Kayleigh’s Wee Stars and MS Scotland and Inverurie Scout Group.

Inverurie Scout Group has been collecting empty crisp packets since last summer to raise funds for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance's (SCAA) campaign to bring a charity helicopter to Aberdeen.

The crisp packets project is known as CrispsForHelimed79 after the helicopter's call sign and our Scout group and local community have collected dozens and dozens of black bags full of empty crisp packets with donations coming from parents, carers and local businesses.

Group Scout Leader, Lesley Berry, said: "Donations to date have been beyond our greatest expectations but please, please continue to keep those crisp packets coming in as the helicopter relies 100 per cent on donations.

"On top of raising money for this magnificent charity, it also keeps all these crisp packets out of landfill!.

"Following the success of the crisp packet appeal, the Scout group had no trouble identifying which worthy cause would be sharing the proceeds from this year’s Raft Race – SCAA."

Chair of the Scout Group Executive Committee, Lisa Hoare said: “While we all hope never to need the services of SCAA, to have this potentially life-saving team on our doorstep is fantastic and definitely deserves our on-going support.”

Community Fundraiser (North) for SCAA, Kate Loades said the charity was thrilled and extremely grateful to be selected as the beneficiary of this summer's fun-filled event.

"Inverurie Scouts have proved great supporters of SCAA and the vital service we provide throughout Scotland," she said.

"Their backing of our soon-to-belaunched service in Aberdeen is hugely appreciated and we hope everyone has a great time raising funds through this fantastic raft race."

This year the event will feature five prize-winning categories, including a brand new class for The Wooden Spoon.

Trevor Joss, Assistant Cub Leader at Inverurie and Raft Race Coordinator, said: “We fully intend this year's Raft Race to be bigger and better than last year, but we cannot do that without your support.

"We look forward to seeing you, your raft and lots of sunshine on June 7.”
