In addition to the fun of costume-wearing, there was plenty of learning, with children making bookmarks and competing in quizzes.

Gordon Primary depute head John Smith said: "The pupils had a brilliant World Book Day.

"We enjoyed dressing up, or coming in our jammies, visiting the school library and getting a new book with our tokens from Orbs Bookshop.

"Pupils made some beautiful bookmarks, researched and used their knowledge to complete Book Bingo, completed an emoji book quiz and much, much more."
