Gordon MP Richard Thomson has welcomed the publication of a submission to the Parliamentary Health and Service Ombudsman (PHSO) on state pension inequality.

It follows his commitment earlier this month to continue working with the campaign Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI).

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women has submitted a formal representation to the PHSO.

Commenting Mr Thomson said:“The PHSO is currently in the second stage of its investigation into how the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) communicated changes to the women’s state pension age.

"Stage one of the investigation concluded that the DWP had committed maladministration, a verdict that 1950s-born women had long argued was the case.

“I hope that this submission from the All-Party Parliamentary Group will inform the work of the Ombudsman in the second stage of its investigation, and further highlight the significant amount of hardship that 1950s-born women have faced as a result of this long-standing injustice.

“Women born in the 1950s have suffered a huge injustice as a result of the UK Government’s handling of this matter. "The only question left now should be one of how quickly the UK Government can act on what it must surely know will be the Ombudsman’s findings.

"It needs to do the right thing by the affected women and do it quickly and fairly.”
