THE author of a book which details the history of Glass Kirk has donated copies to the Trust which now looks after the property to raise funds for its work.

Elizabeth Lawson wrote the book about the kirk in 2008 shortly after it was closed and dedicated it to her mother Peggy Birkbeck and uncle Jimmy Simpson.

Ted Andrews, chairman of the Trust said: "When we set up the charity I approached Elizabeth and she has very kindly and generously donated 150 newly printed copies of her book to us to sell to raise funds."

The book carries a detailed history of Glass Kirk, the ministers, organists, elders, and Church woman's guild activities and will be a fascinating read for anyone living in the parish now or people seeking to trace their ancestors.

The books has been well researched and the author contacted people in the parish for their memories and anecdotes.

It is illustrated with some spectacular colour photographs, including some of the stained glass windows.

Copies of the book can be bought directly from the charity for £12 or from Orbs Community Bookshop in The Square, Huntly.

Anyone who would like to order a copy should e mail info@glasskirk.org.uk. A further £3.50 will be added for books which need to be posted.

The trust is in the process of developing a facility to help people research their ancestors from the parish.

Local historian, Marina Alexander who has conducted extensive research over very many years has made her material available to Glass Kirk and work is under way to create a space which will be a research centre where people can work.
