Garioch Sports Centre succeeds in childcare expansion plan

An Inverurie sports facilities ambitious plans to increase the capacity of its childcare facility could see it become the first to offer the Scottish Government's 1140 hours provision.

In 2019 the Garoich Sports Centre announced major revamp plans which will see it become a centre of sporting excellence for tennis and as part of those, included advanced works to be able to provide extra childcare.

Garioch Sports Centre's chief operating officer Kevin Bonarius said:“We are delighted to have been successful in our Early Learning Childcare (ELC) project bid.

"Covid-19 has brought some positive news in that we have used this period of closure to take the opportunity to start our project works.

"In partnership with Strathburn Park Playgroup we pulled together a unique project in which sits with in the Sports Centre setting.

"What makes this unique is that it sits out with a school environment giving the children a direct link and access to sport, exercise and our considerable outdoor space here at Garioch Sports Centre from as young as two years of age.

"This enhanced facility and provision is another fantastic addition to our community facility and phase 1 of our ambitious 3 phase development”

He added: "Works are well under way with our £240k project and are progressing well with construction scheduled to be completed in October/November 2020.

"Once complete we will be able to accommodate up to 60 young people for their entitled 1140 hours of ELC provision."
