Brothers Ben (aged 13) and Max Pawson (aged 10) set themselves the challenge of tidying up the council owned garden at the bottom of Cunninghill Road in Inverurie, last week while up on holiday from their home in London.

While Ben and Max spent two weeks at their grandparents Kit and Tom Pawson's house in Inverurie, they decided to do their bit for the local community and help tidy up the garden.

They had always noticed how tidy and colourful the garden was while staying with their Grandparents in the past and wanted to get the garden back to it's usual standard.

After a week of hard work, the brothers have finally cleared the council garden.

Every day they weeded, dead headed the roses and generally tidied the area, the result of which was that they ended up filling 11 big bags with weeds and one big bag with litter and rubbish.

Their last job was to plant two floribunda roses to replace the two that had died.

The boys had been sent gardening vouchers by a friend, who had read their story in The Advertiser, so that they could enhance the garden with fresh plants.

The boys were also thrilled that a representative from Aberdeenshire Landscapes and Gardens came personally to thank them for what they were doing to help the community.

Ben and Max return to London on Saturday and said they are: "really pleased that they have been able to help in some small way."
