Rising Aberdeen star Fletcher Boyd helps Huntly business Ian Esslemont Funeral Directors raise thousands for worthy cause

A business is celebrating raising over £2000 in just two hours for a worthy cause thanks to a little help from a rising Aberdeen FC star.

Ian Esslemont Funeral Directors in Huntly held its annual coffee morning on Thursday, September 26, to raise vital funds for Charlie House - a charity which supports children with life threatening conditions.

This year was the firm’s most successful yet after the business raised an astonishing £2500 in just two hours.

A family connection with rising Aberdeen star Fletcher Boyd (16) proved particularly fruitful at this year’s fundraiser.

Maria Esslemont, director of the firm, said: “This year has just blown us away.

“Fletcher’s family are friends of ours so we got him to sign a couple of shirts for us.

“We’d sold about £500 worth of raffle tickets before we had even opened the door so I think that definitely had a part to play with this year’s success.

“It’s getting bigger and bigger every year. It’s a complete team effort you know because we couldn’t do it without people supporting us.

“It’s just brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.”

The firm is now in its seventh year of holding its annual fundraiser.

But Maria says they have no intention of stopping any time soon and are targeting smashing their total again next year.

She added: “We had people queuing around the block to get in.

“We raised so much money for only a couple of hours of work this year which is so great.

“We’re going to move to a bigger hall next year because it’s too big now.

“We just can’t thank everyone enough.”
