Aberdeenshire offered free prams, cots and clothes at Huntly event by Gordon Rural Action baby bank

A charity is giving the public a chance to get free baby items at two events next week.

The Baby Bank, operated by Huntly charity Gordon Rural Action (GRA), is hosting pop-up events on Wednesday (December 11) from Noon to 2pm, and on Thursday (December 12) from 10am to 1pm.

Taking place in the town’s Stewart’s Hall, free baby equipment is set to be offered up to anyone - including high-value items like prams and cots.

Items in good condition can be returned to the Baby Bank when no longer needed - so they can be put to future good use.

Kayleigh Nicholls, support service coordinator at Gordon Rural Action, said that stock would be rotated over both days to allow everyone “a fair chance to take what they need”.

“We will have clothes and toys, prams, cots, feeding and playing equipment,” she added.

“If there is something specific you need on the day please ask and we will try our best to help.

“Everything is free and the event is open to everyone and is not means tested.

“We will also be taking donations of items at the events.

“At our last event we gave away over 20.000 worth of items and save tonnes from landfill, putting back money into the local and wider community.

The drop-in events are being hosted amid a major renovation project at Gordon Rural Action, as building work means that parents cannot drop into the Baby Bank to take items.

However, those keen to use the service can submit a request on the GRA website or attend a pop-up event.

The Baby Bank has recently launched a waiting list, so the public can request items which the charity does not currently have in stock.

Kayleigh added: “We want to support as many families as possible and are constantly thinking of ways we can improve the service.”
