Dufftown Horticultural Society hosts well-attended flower show at Mortlach Memorial Hall
Exhibitors from across the north-east flocked to a well-attended flower show.
There was a “great turn out” of visitors and exhibitors at Dufftown Horticultural Society’s flower show in Mortlach Memorial Hall, according to vice president Kelly Braund.
She said: “We had a great turn out from our exhibitors - despite the poor weather over the summer.
“We get exhibitors from all over the north-east, and our exhibitors were turning up with vans full of exhibits late into Friday night and again bright and early on Saturday morning!
“Slightly fewer cut flowers than the previous year - not too surprising given the cold and rainy summer - but our vegetables, baking and crafts had a really strong showing.
“We had a good turn out of visitors, with lots of people coming for a look at the exhibits and to enjoy our teas and cakes.”
“We are also very grateful for Mortlach School for doing lots of children’s crafts with their pupils - we had some very colourful and creative crafts and bakes from them.”
George Cumming won the RHS Banksian Medal for Most Points in the Horticultural Section, as well as 11 other awards (more than any other entrant).
The best hanging basket in Dufftown competition was won by the Whisky Capital Inn, with Costcutters getting second, and Agnes Greenlees winning third place for the hanging baskets outside her home.
Jean Macdonald won Yeats Cup for most points in Floral Art Section and Juliette Nicolson of Balvenie Rose Bowl for best exhibit in Floral Art Sections
Wendy Walker won Bluebird Salver for best exhibit in Floral Art classes
Douglas Mackie got the Best Exhibit in Woodturning, Sylvia Grant got McGregor Cup for most points in Craft Section and the Devine Quaich for best exhibit in Craft Section.
