THE top pigeon award at the Turriff Show has been won by Banff keeper Martin Ross.
Mr Ross, a veteran of pigeon showing at Turriff, won Best Overall Pigeon Champion for a year-old Show Racer pigeon.
The win was a shock for Mr Ross who, before this year, had never won a rosette at the show.
He said: "I have to say I am buzzing. I really am.
"I am absolutely over the moon, it is unbelievable like."
The top award was not the only victory for Mr Ross at Turriff, as his 15 other entries won a host of rosettes and cards.
Discussing the winning bird, he said: "The champion is a young bird, last year's bird.
"Look at his size, look at the way he stands.
"He is a cracking bird and I am lucky to have him.
"Now it will be a case of breeding him with another good animal and carrying things on."
The pigeon section was well-populated this year, at the first Turriff Show since 2019.
In total, 268 pigeons were in contention.
Mr Ross said: "I honestly couldn't believe it when I came back into the marquee.
"It is amazing to win this – really amazing."
