Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi Scotland (FROM) walkers eagerly set off for a sponsored stroll through autumnal Fetternear estate near Inverurie on Sunday afternoon.

Walkers had the choice of an 8K moderate walk or an easy 5K, both of which ended with a welcome picnic at the end.

Donations were plentiful for the participants, and it is somewhat humbling to know that just £15 will feed a Malawian child for a year.

FROM Scotland chairman Lewis Taylor said: "Thanks to the generosity of supporters and participants we have raised around £1000 from the event."

During the pandemic FROM has also been working in partnership with the Chira Fund and the WASHTED centre at at the university of Malawi on initiatives at the Queen Elizabeth central hospital in Blantyre.

FROM has also supported Covid-19 training for teachers from across Chikwawa district to ensure that children were practising effective hand-washing in schools.

They have supported the installation of hand soap dispensers and soap in all health facilities across Blantyre.

They also supported Open Arms Infant Home in their outreach programme by providing additional food assistance for families in need.
