The family of the late Web Duncan has made a donation to Turriff United Youth Football Club in his memory.

Mr Duncan was heavily involved with the football teams in the town for more than 30 years.

He was particularly keen to see young players develop and that is why his family has donated £1000 collected at his funeral to the club.

Chairwoman of Turriff United Youth Football Club Lesley Chapman said the group was very grateful to receive the donation.

She added: "Web was initially a coach for his two sons back when it was Turriff Boys Club.

"He was heavily involved with football in Turriff for more than 30 years.

"He was very much a supporter of the youth structure and seeing players progress.

"We were all deeply saddened when Web was suddenly taken from us last year and the clubs came together to support his family in any way they could.

"Donations had been made at his funeral and his family decided to give it to the youth teams as they know that's what Web would have wanted.

"We are now going to take our time to decide what we are going to spend the money on and we will include the family in that decision.

"We want to use the donation on something long-lasting and something Web would have liked to see happen himself."

Mr Duncan died in a road accident near Oldmeldrum in December last year.

His family have been involved with Turriff United, its youth set up and Turriff Thistle and Mr Duncan was latterly on the committee of United and was instrumental in bringing new facilities to The Haughs ground.

Turriff United Youth Football Club is thriving with 365 children involved with its teams, which includes 108 girls coached by Mrs Chapman.

She added: "It is a significant group within Turriff and we are here to provide sporting opportunities for the youngsters. We aim to make a positive impact on the community, it's not just a football club."
