The Garioch Heritage Centre has seen a busy start to 2020 with the very popular Embroiderers’ Guild’s “Home” Exhibition bringing almost 900 visitors through the doors.

Having now seen it packed away, the Centre is making ready for the inaugural annual Garioch Model Engineering Show over the weekend of March 14 and 15.

The exhibition will showcase some of the work of north-east model makers.

This promises to be a packed exhibition for enthusiasts with various local clubs including Aberdeen Model Engineering Society, Elgin Model Club, Kinloss and Forres Model Club, Aberdeen Modellers Society and Aberdeen Model Railway Club showing a selection of boats, planes, trains and stationery, Lego and Meccano models.

There will also be the opportunity, courtesy of Strachans Inverurie, for children to let their imagination run wild and create a Lego model in the Centre.

Pictures of the models should be shared online to enable Strachans to pick their favourite and they will award a prize to the winner.

The event will be raising funds for the Garioch Heritage Centre and will be open to the public between 10 am and 4 pm both days.

Entry costs £4 for adults, £3 for concessions and accompanying children will be free of charge.

The Model Engineering Show will be followed by the Gordon Arts Exhibition and Showcase which will be open to the public Thursday, March 18– Sunday 22.

Plans are also well underway for this year’s major exhibition – the Prestonpans Tapestry.

This special exhibition will run from April 1 through to June 27 and marks 275 years since the battles of Prestonpans and Inverurie, and 10 years since the completion of the Tapestry and will be accompanied by a number of talks and events.

Chairman of the Garioch Heritage Society, Colin Wood said: “The Centre is delighted to be able to give local people an opportunity to see this unique and impressive nationally important work of art which commemorates events which shaped the future of Scotland and the UK.

"This is the only chance to see the tapestry in its entirety before it is installed in its new permanent home in the Borders in a few years’ time and it showcases the ability of the Centre to host a major exhibition.”

Later in the year the Centre, will be hosting local artists for North East Open Studios 2020 between September 15 – 20 and places are still available.

Should anyone wish to book they should contact the centre on info@gariochheritage.co.uk or phone on 01467 621855.

The Centre is open from Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm with free Admission but donations are greatly appreciated.
