Events thrown by Huntly's Youth Climate Justice Club and Huntly Climate Action this July are aiming to inspire the community to tackle the climate crisis.

The headline climate event this July will be a climate assembly and ceilidh, held this September with a date to be confirmed.

Providing a space for the community to share climate concerns, the assembly aims to inspire change in a positive and engaging way.

Food and ceilidh dancing is set to give guests a welcome relief from the realities of battling climate change.

The assembly will also see the launch of the Climate Justice Youth Club's manifesto, which they have been working on for three months with artist and educator Hussein Mitha.

A Youth Climate Justice Club spokesperson said: "The objective of the event is to bring together folk in the area with climate concerns, to discuss possible actions and solutions to climate breakdown together, and to celebrate the commitment of young people in the town to climate justice."

In the lead up to the assembly, the Youth Climate Justice Club are hosting drop-in meetings and are inviting new members.

The Club, set up as part of Deveron Projects artist in residence Mitha's project The World is Ours in Spite of All, is looking to nail down a manifesto, develop a children's book and get campaigns into action.

With the meetings happening on a drop-in basis, young people in Huntly are being encouraged to go to Square Deal on Friday, July 8 and Friday, July 15 from 4-6pm.

A spokesperson said: "Join in if you'd like! We are still open to anyone aged 14-25 interested in climate justice to join us - for one, two or all of the upcoming sessions!

"From the beginning of August, as Hussein's residency comes to an end, the group will be planning their own meetings, agendas and campaigns so whether you only want to listen, or you would like to voice your concerns and discuss your opinions with other young people, this is a safe and fun space to do it!"
