Huntly to host European amateur premiere of award-winning 9/11 musical Come From Away
The amateur premier of a moving play about 9/11 is set to take to the stage in an Aberdeenshire town.
Aurora Productions, a Huntly-based theatre group, has announced its upcoming production of the critically acclaimed musical, Come From Away; the first time an amateur theatre company will perform it in Europe.
The show tells the remarkable true story of 7000 airline passengers who were stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, in the days following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
As the world was reeling from tragedy, the people of Gander opened their homes and hearts to the “plane people”, forging unexpected bonds and demonstrating the extraordinary power of human kindness and community spirit.
The musical weaves together heart-warming stories of compassion, resilience and the enduring strength of the human spirit, set to a vibrant and uplifting score.
This highly anticipated production features a talented cast of performers hailing from Huntly and across the north-east of Scotland, including Aberdeen, Elgin, Banff, Keith, Ellon, Turriff and beyond, showcasing the region’s rich artistic talent.

“We are honoured to be the first amateur company in Europe to bring it to the stage.
“There is something about the town of Gander, Newfoundland, that feels so similar to Huntly.
“It feels fitting that this show has its first European amateur outing in a small town where community is at the heart of everything. We are so lucky to live where we do - and we are equally lucky that Huntly and the surrounding communities are so filled with talented performers and musicians.”
