Two Ellon-based beauty businesses have been recognised as some of the best in the north of Scotland by their industry.

When the shortlisted finalists were announced for the 2020 North Scotland Hair And Beauty Industry Awards, both Jenny Gray Makeup and Nicola Child Microblading And Permanent Makeup were putting Ellon on the map.

The shortlist for Cosmetic/Aesthetic Practitioner Of The Year features Nicola, while Jenny is in the running for Make-up Artist of The Year.

The organisers say that they had a difficult time whittling down the nomination to select finalists due to the "incredibly high" standard of entries, and they have extended their gratitude to both their "high calibre judges" and everybody who was nominated saying "everyone that entered these awards is a winner in our eyes".

They went on to write: "Thank you so much to every single one of you that entered the competition this year, a year which can only be described as hugely challenging.

"It's been an incredibly difficult year so far, which makes judging each entry even more challenging.

"Reaching consensus on finalists for any award during any normal time is difficult enough, let along with the ongoing pandemic fears."

Speaking to Grampian Online, Jenny said: " I'm so humbled that I have been selected as a finalist.

"A lot has happened and evolved with my business over the past year including opening up my own studio in the centre of Ellon, above Duncan and Todd Opticians.

"Having won the first ever awards in 2019, to be able to win 2020 would make all the hard work, sweat and tears all worth it, especially after such a tough year.

"It sounds cliché when I say that I am finally living my dream, but it is true, and to be recognised by being a finalist is the icing on the cake."
