ELECTION 2021: Aberdeenshire Council provides update on polling places

The list of polling places managed by Aberdeenshire Council for the upcoming Scottish Parliament election on Thursday, May 6, is now available.

The updated list includes a number of changes to polling places since elections in 2019, and can be found in full at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/elections/where-to-vote-during-scottish-parliamentary-elections/

Website visitors will also be able to find where Aberdeenshire-resident electors can vote within the constituencies of Aberdeenshire South and North Kincardine (administered by Aberdeen City Council), and Angus North and Mearns (administered by Angus Council).

The most recent change within Aberdeenshire has been that Auchterless School has been replaced with the village’s community hall as a polling place.

Polling cards sent out before the change refer to the hall but voters should now instead head to the school if they are voting in person.

The other changes are as follows:

Aberdeenshire East:

Longside (EB0408), former polling place: Longside Parish Church Hall, replacement: St John’s Church.

Auchterless (EB0705), former polling place: Auchterless Community Hall, replacement: Auchterless School.

Ellon Town (EG0906), former polling place: Kirk Centre, replacement: Victoria Hall.

Inverurie West (EG1101) and Inverurie North (EG1102), former polling place: Garioch Community Centre, replacement: Garioch Indoor Bowling Club.

Aberdeenshire West:

Insch (WG1001): former polling place: Insch Community Centre, replacement: Bennachie Leisure Centre.

Cairnie (WG1401): former polling place: Cairnie Public Hall, replacement: Cairney School.

Huntly (WG1403): former polling place: Stewart’s Hall, replacement: Linden Centre.

Alford (WW1414): former polling place: Alford Community Centre, replacement: Alford Ski Centre.

Banffshire and Buchan Coast:

Myrus/Macduff (BB0202): former polling place: Macduff Town Hall, replacement: Buchan Street Hall, Macduff.

Longside East (BB0409): former polling place: Longside Parish Church Hall, replacement: Rathen Public Hall.

Lonmay (BB0502): former polling place: Lonmay Public Hall, replacement: Roads Community Café, St Combs.

Peterhead Central (BB0507): former polling place: Rescue Hall, replacement: Territorial Army Centre.

The lists of candidates who will be standing in the three Scottish Parliament constituencies in the Aberdeenshire area are also available at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/elections/scottish-parliament-election

Aberdeenshire Council chief executive and returning officer Jim Savege said: “The arrangements for any election are very carefully planned, and even more so this year in line with guidance around the pandemic.

“Our plans for the upcoming Scottish Parliament election take account of guidance from the Scottish Government, the Electoral Management Board for Scotland and the Electoral Commission, as well as the following the latest health advice from Public Health Scotland.

“We are working together to ensure everybody can vote with confidence on Thursday, May 6, and our polling places will be set up accordingly.”
