A96 in Moray is closed after fire affecting two properties in Keith





An ‘avoid the area’ plea has been issued by police after a serious blaze resulted in the closure of a major road.

Two properties on the A96 in Keith were affected by a blaze, which eight fire appliances were called to shortly after 9am this morning.

No injuries have been reported after the incident on Regent Street, but the A96 has been closed at the Newmill junction, with police advising that motorists should seek alternate routes.

Emergency services remain on the scene, with the road having now been close for three hours.

A police statement reads: “The A96 road is closed in Keith due to a house fire. There are no reported injuries.

“Avoid the area and motorists should use an alternative route.

“Cars should use Seafield Avenue/Station Road. Lorries should use the B9014 from Regent Square to Drummuir and the B9115 to the A96.

An earlier statement from a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson saod: "We were alerted at 9.11am on Monday, August 19, to reports of a fire affecting two residential properties on Regent Street in Keith, Moray.

"Operations Control immediately mobilised eight fire appliances to the scene.

"There are no casualties, and crews remain in attendance."
