Adam Golebiewski-crash driver detained for nearly three years
A teenage driver has been handed a nearly-three-year sentence for a crash which saw a young goalkeeper lose both of his legs.
Arran Paterson, who previously admitted to “causing serious injury by dangerous driving”, driving without insurance and drink driving, was sentenced at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
The driver was sentenced to 32 months of detention at a Young Offenders Institution over the crash, since he is below the age of 21.
One of Paterson’s passengers, 18-year-old Deveronside goalkeeper Adam Golebiewski, suffered life-threatening injuries which required both of his legs to be amputated.
BBC News reported that Sheriff Philip Mann told Paterson that nothing could change the "devastating" impact of his dangerous driving.
The sheriff reportedly told the teenager that his sentence should serve as an example of the consequences of drink driving.
Paterson was also banned from driving for a total of five years and four months.
Details of charges state that Paterson had been driving at “excessive speed” on September 8 last year, before he lost control of the car and collided with a wall on Union Road in Macduff.
Paterson’s three passengers, two males and a female, all suffered “severe injury and permanent disfigurement” in the crash, court documents said.
Paterson also previously admitted driving without valid insurance and driving with a blood alcohol level of 62/100 - higher than the legal limit of 50/100.
