The Buchan Heritage Society's Doric Prose and Poetry competition in now open for entries.

Each year the competition inspires children, young adults and adults alike to explore, understand and use the Doric dialect.

The competition aims to stimulate the use of both spoken and written Doric, enriching vocabulary along the way.

The Society welcomes writing on contemporary as well as traditional themes.

Prose entries can be on any subject but the be within certain word counts -

Under nine up to 300 words; 10-12 years, up to 500 words; 13-17 years, up to 700 words and 18+ up to 2000 words.

Poetry entries can be on any subject and length but must contain a reasonable amount of Doric words.

They will also be judged in the same age categories as the prose competition.

To enter, a completed entry form must be filled in which can be obtained from www.buchanheritagesociety.co.uk under the Strichen Festival page where details of the submission address and information for school teachers can also be found.

The closing date for entries is March 31, 2021.
