'Do this and you may not be insured': Police Scotland warns Aberdeenshire, Moray and Highland drivers over defrosting of unattended vehicles after spate of thefts
Drivers leaving their cars running unattended while they defrost have been the victims of "a number" of recent crimes, police have warned.
Officers highlighted the dangers of leaving their vehicles running unattended amid an ongoing Arctic cold snap which has brought snow and ice to parts of Aberdeenshire, Moray and elsewhere in Scotland.
Following a "number of reports across Scotland" where thieves have stolen vehicles that were left unattended, officers have stressed the dangers of doing this.
And they have warned that, as well as having their vehicle stolen, they may even fall foul of their insurers - who may refuse to pay out over the unnecessary risks the victims took in leaving their cars unattended.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A number of reports across Scotland where vehicles have been left running to defrost and they've been subsequently stolen.
“Please remember - do not leave your vehicle running whilst unattended.
“Worst case scenario - your vehicle could be stolen and your insurance may not pay!"
