Whitehills couple mark 60th wedding anniversary





A couple has been at the centre of celebrations after reaching their diamond wedding anniversary.

Murray and Isobel Wood, of Ogilvie Street in Whitehills, marked their milestone day with family and friends.

The couple met while attending the popular dances that were held in Macduff.

After a few years together they got engaged and were married at Doune Church in Macduff on December 5, 1964.

After the wedding ceremony their reception was held in the Royal Oak which was on Banff’s Bridge Street.

Isobel (nee Reid) is originally from Gardenstown and moved to Macduff when she was four years old.

During her working life the 80-year-old worked at Wilson’s drapers, John Hall’s in Macduff, was a home help and had the Carobel shop on Banff’s High Street for 21 years.

Murray (82) is originally from Whitehills and worked at the fishing for 30 years and then for Aberdeenshire Council at the Whitehills and Gardenstown waste centres for 25 years.

After they were married, the couple first lived at Boyne Street and then Wilson Crescent in Whitehills, before settling at their home in Ogilvie Street where they have lived for 54 years.

They have two daughters, Linda and Janice, and two granddaughters, Reagan and Erin.

The couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with family and friends during a meal at the Seafield Arms in Whitehills.

On their special day they received gifts from Councillor John Cox on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council and Deputy Lieutenant of Banffshire Valerie Cheyne.
