A Blackburn couple are celebrating 60 years of marriage and a lifetime of love this month.

For Jean and Doug Cumming, cupid struck when they were dancing the night away at local Leys Hall at the tender age of 16.

The couple married at Rutherford Church on August 11, 1962, and held their reception at the Kintore Arms in Inverurie.

They have gone on to welcome three children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Doug spent his working days with various paper mills - including 16 years as a lorry driver for Ogston Paper Mills and 30 years as a mechanic at Donside Paper Mills - while Jean was a bakery manager in Aberdeen before moving to a role at Clinterty College where she worked for 22 years.

The couple have plans to celebrate the milestone later in the year, but were visited on the day of their anniversary by local dignitaries.
