Dermot Kennedy will bring new tour to north-east

Acclaimed singer and songwriter Dermot Kennedy has announced his biggest UK tour which will be stopping off in the north-east.

The Irish performer will play the P&J Live Arena in Aberdeen on Saturday, April 1 next year.

He has also shared his new track Innocence and Sadness, a song taken from his upcoming second album Sonder, which is out on Friday, November 4.

The track is accompanied by a video shot in April 2022 in New York; a straight up performance clip that has been used as the final version and appears on the album. It was the final song recorded for the record and is completely live.

On the track, Kennedy said: “It’s impossible for me to express how much this song means to me. I wrote this song on the piano in my parents’ house.

"'Innocence and sadness in the same night' means I cling to my childlike sense of wonder while learning how to face all the challenges of life. All in search of steady rhythm joy. Reliable and true joy.”

His tour will start in Glasgow on March 31 next year before coming to Aberdeen’s P&J Live and travelling across the UK before finishing at The O2 in London on April 14th, performing to more than 120,000 fans.

Tickets go on sale on Friday, October 14 at 9am and are available at www.dermotkennedy.com/tour

The announcement comes after he performed to more than 70,000 fans as the Friday headline act at Ireland’s Electric Picnic Festival, his biggest festival headline slot to date.

Kennedy recently released the single Kiss Me; co-written by Dermot, Dan Smith (Bastille), KOZ (Kendrick Lamar, Dua Lipa) and Steve Mac (Pink, Ed Sheeran)

The forthcoming new album is an exciting new chapter for the global star. Sonder is summarised as “the realisation that each random passer-by is living a life as vivid and complex as your own,” a term that has resonated deeply with Kennedy.

More highlights from the album include the lead single Something to Someone which has topped more than 20 million streams and is currently charting at both Triple A and Hot AC Radio. Dreamer another track from the album, is a softer, piano-lead cut.

Nominated for the Best International Male BRIT Award in 2020, Kennedy has now amassed nearly 4 billion streams across platforms and has the best-selling debut album in Ireland of this millennium, making him a platinum-selling artist in more than 12 countries. Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Shawn Mendes, all call themselves fans.

Louise Stewart, interim managing director at P&J Live, said: “We’re really pleased to see P&J Live included in Dermot Kennedy’s Sonder tour.

"His contemporary sound, golden vocals and piercing lyrical content has already won over a sizeable fan following here in the north-east of Scotland and we can’t wait to see what his show has in store.”

Three mobile customers can get their hands on pre-sale tickets on Wednesday, October 12 at 9am and tickets go on general on sale on Friday, October 14 at 9am. Fans can also visit www.ticketmaster.co.uk for tickets.
