Elgin attacker Jon Craig has jail sentence increased for threatening second woman
A prisoner serving six years for attacking an Elgin woman with a metal pole has had his jail term extended for threatening another woman.
Jon Craig carried out a “cowardly and vicious” assault in 2017 after falling out with a female supervisor at Walkers Shortbread where they both worked. He was subsequently imprisoned the following year.
The 63-year-old appeared in court again today on a charge of threatening to throw his partner in a river.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told this offence took place during 2021. However it only came to light in May when the partner went to police shortly before Craig was due to be released from jail.
After admitting his guilt Craig was today given another eight months although, as he has been on remand for the offence since June 3, he will only serve another four.
Back in 2018 Craig ambushed his victim and smashed her skull and facial bones with a pole as she left her home in the South Lesmurdie area of Elgin. The attack left her unable to speak.
Craig, who has lived at Harbour Street, Buckie, and Pinefield Crescent, Elgin, subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge of assault to the endangerment of life.
Lord Mulholland, speaking at the High Court in Glasgow, described the early morning attack as "cowardly and vicious", adding that the woman could have died if not for the skill of a surgeon.
While police were investigating the assault, they searched Craig’s home and found details for the ingredients and methods to make explosives and a bomb.
Literature about the British National Party was saved onto a computer as were images of Craig, who’s also known as Coutler, posing in front of a swastika.
