Following the spike in Covid-19 positive cases recorded in the NHS Grampian area, which saw 122 cases, NHS Grampian has this afternoon confirmed that the rise is largely, but not exclusively linked to a newly detected cluster of 78 cases associated with the Kepak McIntosh Donald plant in Portlethen.

An incident management team has now been set up to monitor the situation

It was confirmed that after a small number of cases were initially identified at the plant, all staff were offered asymptomatic testing.

Over 200 took up the offer on Monday and NHS Grampian said that they account for much of the increase in case numbers.

Currently there is no evidence the outbreak has spread beyond the plant but it is noted that given the large number of tests taken by staff further cases could be confirmed tomorrow.
