Council tax freeze on the cards for Moray

Council tax charges for Moray residents look set to remain at their current levels.
Moray Council is due to meet on March 3 to set the rate for the 2021/2022 financial year.
However a report released this afternoon shows the council's chief financial officer recommending that the charges should stay at their current levels.
A large driver behind this recommendation is that £1.48million of funding from the Scottish Government is conditional on the council agreeing to freeze council tax.
The report prepared by Lorraine Paisey states that core Scottish Government funding of £167.8million will be forthcoming to Moray Council.
After various sums are added and subtracted, her report concludes that this amounts to an actual increase of about £1.46million from the last financial year.
Other items of note in the same document are plans for a new cemetery somewhere in Elgin.
In addition, proposals are being made to bring forward the work to reopen Foths Bridge in Birnie.
The bridge is currently scheduled to remain closed until 2024.
Mention is also made of the proposed artificial football pitch for Forres.
There are also proposals to increase the amount of money spent on the upkeep of Moray's roads.
This follows a council decision made in 2014 to temporarily divert cash towards other needs as, at the time, the region's roads were deemed amongst the best maintained in Scotland.
All of these items will all be voted on at the meeting on March 3.
