New council leader councillor Andy Kille has stepped down from his role as chairman of the Banff and Buchan area committee.

Councillor Kille was officially elected as leader at the recent meeting of the full council.

At Tuesday's online meeting of the area committee he said he would vacate the chairman's post, which he has held since 2017, due to his new commitments.

New council leader councillor Andy Kille has resigned as chairman of the Banff and Buchan area committee.

He said: "I've had the very great pleasure of chairing the Banff and Buchan area committee since August 2017.

"It has been a huge honour and a privilege and I've enjoyed it immensely.

"The new responsibilities mean that I will be unable to devote as much time as I would like to this committee or as much time as this committee deserves and should expect of its chair.

"As such, and with no small measure of regret, I must tender my resignation as chair of the Banff and Buchan area committee."

The resignation will take effect just before the area committee's next meeting on Tuesday, December 15. A new chair will then be elected.

Councillor Glen Reynolds said: "Your service to this area committee has been very much appreciated and the tone and integrity that you've shown in your chairmanship has been warmly welcomed by everybody.

"I would like to offer my congratulations on his succession to become leader of the council and I fully understand what he has said in terms of the duties, responsibilities and obligations that involves and the reasoning behind him standing down as chair of the area committee.

"I've enjoyed working with him and found him to be a man of honour, sincerity and wisdom, and long may he be guided by that."
