Coronavirus update: North-east sustains a further drop in cases

Scotland saw a further fall in positive cases overnight as a total of 1165 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours compared to 1429 the previous day.

This equated to 11.1 per cent of those tested (12.3 the previous day).

A further 71 deaths were noted in the last 24 hours with Covid as a contributing factor.

The NHS Greater Glasgow area saw 345 (451) cases, Lanarkshire 178 (244) and Lothian 142 (178).

NHS Grampian also saw a decrease with 86 cases (113) while NHS Highland remained almost level with 22 cases (21).

The NHS Grampian area recorded 1029 cases in the last seven days taking the overall total to 11,340.

Public Health Scotland's most up to date figures cover the seven days between January 10 and January 16 show Aberdeenshire recorded 385 positive cases (up from 377 the previous day) which equated to 7.7 per cent of all tests carried out (up from 7.6 per cent) and a positive test rate per 100,000 population of 147.8 (up from 144.3).

For the same time period, Aberdeen City saw 535 cases (down from 551) equating to 10.2 per cent of all tests (down from 10.4) and positive test rate of 234.0 per 100,000 (down from 241.0).

In the daily area figures the sustained fall in cases was seen in most areas across Aberdeenshire with the exception of a small increase in the Ythanside area, with several areas nowback down to the baseline 0-2 case level and others such as Cromar where case numbers had been relatively high now showing a continued decline.
