Coronavirus update: Further signs of cases falling across the north-east

Scotland saw further fall in positive cases overnight as a total of 1307 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours compared to 1480 the previous day.

This equated to 9.3 per cent of those tested (6.9 the previous day).

A further 76 deaths were noted in the last 24 hours with Covid as a contributing factor.

The NHS Greater Glasgow area saw 382 cases (427), Lanarkshire 256 (273) and Lothian 155 (166).

NHS Grampian saw cases fall to 100 (128) while NHS Highland's fell slightly to 44 (46).

The NHS Grampian area recorded 866 cases in the last seven days taking the overall total to 11,824.

Public Health Scotland's most up to date figures cover the seven days between January 13 and January 19 show Aberdeenshire recorded 320 positive cases (up from 310 the previous day) which equated to 6.6 per cent of all tests carried out (up from 6.4 per cent) and a positive test rate per 100,000 population of 122.5 (up from 118.7).

For the same time period, Aberdeen City saw 400 cases (down from 437) equating to 8.3 per cent of all tests (down from 8.9) and positive test rate of 174.9 per 100,000 (down from 191.1).

In the daily area figures the sustained fall in cases continues across Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City, the only notable increase being in the New Deer area with a slight rise.
