Coronavirus update: Drop in daily cases is being sustained

In Scotland in the last 24 hours there have been a total of 10,382 positive cases of coronavirus which equates to 27.7 per cent of those tested.

Amongst these newly reported cases NHS Glasgow recorded 2226 cases and NHS Lothian 1655 cases.

NHS Grampian saw 1012 cases while NHS Highland recorded 657.

Public Health Scotland stopped the publication of daily totals of Omicron variants and break down by NHS Board on January 4.

In the seven days to January 8, Aberdeenshire saw 3522 cases (1350.6 per 100,000), Aberdeen City 3538 (1544.6 per 100,000) and Moray 1647 (1720.8 per 100,000).

16 new deaths were recorded in Scotland with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

To date in Scotland more than 4,393,689 people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination and over 4,051,635 people have received their second dose.

A further 3,130,502 have received a third dose or booster.
