In Scotland in the last 24 hours there have been a total of 949 positive cases which equates to 8.6 per cent of those tested overall.

NHS Greater Glasgow saw 370 cases, Lanarkshire 190 , Lothian 95 and Ayrshire 83 with the remaining cases across Scotland.

In the NHS Grampian area there were a further 43 cases and seven in NHS Highland.

For the seven days to November 20, there were 167 cases in Aberdeenshire (63.9 per 100,000) and 121 in Aberdeen City (52.9 per 100,000).

While cases around Peterhead have started to show a fall, number for areas around Ellon in particular have risen in that seven day period.

No additional deaths were recorded in Scotland with Covid-19 as a contributing factor in the last 24 hours, but since last Friday 44 have been recorded.

Speaking today First Minister Nicola Sturgeon spoke today on the policy of testing before discharge from hospital.

She said: "Anyone who has had Covid should have two negative tests before discharge to a care home, and one test for those who have not had Covid - that has not changed.

"There are some exceptional care circumstances, especially where coming to the end of life, it may be in the case that home is the best place to be, and that may well be a care home.

"It is only in exceptional circumstances driven by the clinical interest, with the risk assessment of both the care home and the patient where possible."

She continued: "On Wednesday the expansion of testing will be outlined by the health secretary and on Tuesday I will update the levels across Scotland.

"The majority will remain in their current level, East Lothian will be moved down to Level 2 but mid-Lothian will remain as is for a bit longer."

On the festive period she said: "We have had discussions about this in the last few days and are making progress to a common position.

But the details are still to be finalised, I would urge everyone to wait till we get to that point.

"This is a particularly difficult balance to strike and public opinion is mixed to say the least.

"We are trying to reach a sensible balance, some may be able to form larger bubbles for a short period - we recognise that doing the right thing may involved looking after those who will be on their own but the virus will not take Christmas off.

"When we set out the rules we will set out the precautions as well, you don't have to mix if you don't need to or travel if you have to either.

"It is worth everyone asking if we need to visit people, if delaying it to spring would be a better move.

"There are difficult decisions to arrive at but we must strike them in the most sensible way."
