Coronavirus update: Cases remain at high rates as change over to testing result recording is introduced

In Scotland in the last 24 hours there have been a total of 8203 positive cases of coronavirus.

As of today this figure includes cases identified using either a first LFD (lateral flow device) or PCR (polymerase chain reaction) positive test

Amongst these newly reported cases NHS Glasgow recorded 1227 cases and NHS Lothian 928 cases.

NHS Grampian saw 447 cases while NHS Highland recorded 203.

In the seven days to January 8, Aberdeenshire saw 2629 cases (1008.1 per 100,000), Aberdeen City 2834 (1237.2 per 100,000) and Moray 1174 (1226.6 per 100,000).

26 new deaths were recorded in Scotland with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

To date in Scotland more than 4,395,793 people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination and over 4,057,606 people have received their second dose.

A further 3,159,509 have received a third dose or booster.
