Coronavirus update: Case numbers remain static as north-east sees a slight decline

Scotland saw a slight fall in positive cases overnight as a total of 1636 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours compared to 1656 the previous day.

This equated to 7.0 per cent of those tested (7.51 the previous day).

A further 89 deaths were noted in the last 24 hours with Covid as a contributing factor.

The NHS Greater Glasgow area saw 510 cases (512), Lanarkshire 328 (255) and Lothian 182 (151).

NHS Grampian saw cases fall to 104 (152) while NHS Highland's remained almost level at 42 (44).

The NHS Grampian area recorded 960 cases in the last seven days taking the overall total to 11,596.

Public Health Scotland's most up to date figures cover the seven days between January 12 and January 18 show Aberdeenshire recorded 333 positive cases (down from 369 the previous day) which equated to 6.9 per cent of all tests carried out (down from 7.5 per cent) and a positive test rate per 100,000 population of 127.5 (down from 141.3).

For the same time period, Aberdeen City saw 485 cases (down from 528) equating to 9.8 per cent of all tests (down from 10.4) and positive test rate of 212.1 per 100,000 (down from 230.9).

In the daily area figures the sustained fall in cases continued to be seen in most areas across Aberdeenshire however levels remain higher in Longside, Blackburn, Kemany, Aboyne, South Mearns and Stonehaven.
