Scotland only recorded 77 positive tests yesterday leading to an immediate statement of context from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

She said: "Today's overall figures and numbers of positive cases are lower than recent days, we believe these are not yet complete and are urgently seeking to resolve these.

"We now have very serious concerns on the backlog of test and the effect this has on timeous results.

"I am raising this with the UK Health Secretary as the delay is causing concern and I am also escalating discussions with the UK government to try to find urgent answers in order that we can quickly and collectively find a solution."

She stresses the Scottish government is very keen to play its part in finding a solution to the problems and added: "New cases in Scotland have been more than trebling every three weeks in the last few weeks.

"That pattern is not sustainable.

"If we all act collectively now, our hope is that we can stem that increase."

According to the figures released for the last 24 hours, NHS Grampian saw six new cases, NHS Highland saw five cases, while NHS Greater Glasgow just 27 which is in stark contrast to the previous day's 104, a drop in numbers also reflected in NHS Lanarkshire which saw just eight cases compared to 62 the day before.
