Banff and Macduff town centres will be focus of community event





Businesses, community groups and stakeholders are invited to a special event focused on shaping the future of two town centres.

The session on Thursday, October 3 from 9.30am to 3.30pm at the Fife Lodge Hotel in Banff will spotlight how collaboration can address key challenges and unlock new opportunities for the communities of Banff and Macduff.

Attendees will hear from guest speakers sharing their knowledge and experiences of developing town centres for the future following the Covid-19 pandemic and cost of living crisis.

With inspiring keynote speeches and practical breakout sessions designed to spark new ideas, the focus of the event is to bring everyone together to look to the future.

Whether attendees are a business owner, community leader or local stakeholder, the event offers an opportunity to recognise that town centres have changed, to network and work in partnership to address challenges and opportunities.

The keynote speakers are:

• Kimberley Guthrie, chief officer, Scotland's Towns Partnership.

• Jamie Hamilton and Roland Playle, Community Charter Network – Just Transition Communities Project Banff and Macduff

• Angharad Rogers, Moray Town Centres Taskforce.

• Derek Ritchie, We Are Inverurie.

The interactive breakout sessions will focus on community tourism; keeping pounds in shire towns; marketing and communications; property development; and business network/collaborative strategies.

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “This free event offers a unique opportunity to learn from other regions’ successes, explore innovative ideas, and develop partnerships to create thriving, sustainable town centres.

“With dedicated time for networking and lunch provided, the day promises to be an important step for Banff and Macduff town centres and is open to businesses, community groups, local stakeholders, and anyone invested in the future of the two towns.
