Clatt Primary’s closure confirmed as Scottish Ministers decline to intervene

Aberdeenshire Council's decision to close Clatt Primary School can now proceed, as Scottish Ministers have confirmed they will not intervene.

The school near Huntly was originally mothballed in 2022 after its number of pupils dropped to only six, from a total of 18 six years earlier.

This past April The council then decided that it should close.

Ministers can only "call-in" such a closure if there was a failure by the local authority to comply with legal requirements or to properly consider a material issue.

However, after reviewing all submitted documents and receiving no objections, it was decided that Aberdeenshire Council had fulfilled all its obligations.

Education Scotland has also advised the council to collaborate with stakeholders on the future use of the school building.
