CHRISTMAS Lights around Banff were lit up on Sunday evening, marking the start of the festive period.
Banff Plainstones Christmas Cracker put up a tree on Low Street, with lights on the same street and on Strait Path.
Aberdeenshire School Pipe Band played as the lights came on.
The Christmas Cracker’s chairman Kenny Grant said: “It went superbly. There has been a lot of local support for this and we want to thank everybody for that.
“It has been a lot of hassle getting this far so it was good seeing the tree going up.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t get people along but next year we are hoping to do the full switch on. Hopefully we will be able to get the road closed, get folk along and concentrate on a street party.”
Various buildings, shops and offices have lights up – and the group also donated a nine-foot tree to Banff Academy which the pupils decorated.
Kenny Grant thanked everyone who helped the light switch-on and those who raised cash, with a special thanks to Ewen Fraser and John Ollason for allowing the use of their equipment to put the lights up and Roy Murray and Neil Mcleod for their electricity to power them.
