Centre's cattle records smashed at the Thainstone Centre

Centre records were smashed at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ Thainstone Centre this week when a British Blue cross cow sold for £2130 or 229p per kg.

Believed to be one of the largest sale of cull cows in the UK this week, the weekly sale of 361 cast cows and bulls held on Thursday, saw 133 beef finished cows average £1332.85 (-£51.08), 158 beef feeding cows cash in at £1043.79 and 53 boning cows level at £683.77.

With a full ringside of competitive buyers forward, setting a new centre record at £2130 was a pure British Blue cow scaling 930kg from Tanqueray Pedigrees, Bridgeton, Muir of Fowlis.

The same home also set another centre record for a young bull when a British Blue bull weighing 965kg made £2306.35 or 239p per kg.

A strong show of 50 prime cattle saw an OTM Limousin cross heifer weighing 820kg from Gordon Carroll, Edendiack, Huntly, top at £2041.80.

On the same day, the firm sold 3508 prime sheep, store sheep and feeding ewes & rams, which saw a strong entry of 1224 feeding ewes sell at top rates.

The ewe trade topped at £260 for a Texel ewe from S Stewart, The Cottage, Wardes, Inverurie.
