A96 speed trap between Keith and Huntly snares 106mph driver
A motorist has been banned from the roads after being caught doing 106mph on the A96.
Steven Carnegie was clocked by the police on the straight near the Coachford turn-off between Keith and Huntly.
The 39-year-old appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court where it was stated the “traffic flow was high” at the time he was stopped on December 18.
Mention was also made of the temperature only being five degrees celsius.
Additionally, Carnegie was said to have twice received points on his licence for speeding during the 12 months leading up to the offence.
Defence solicitor Stephen Carty told the court that his client was a full-time carer for two members of his family.
The lawyer conceded a ban was inevitable but asked for it to be kept relatively short for their sakes.
Mr Carty added “The people who up until now depended on my client for his driving are losing the benefit it provides them.
“A significant lesson has now been learned by Mr Carnegie.”
The defendant, whose address was given in court papers as Sandilands Drive, Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to a single charge of speeding and was given a 12-month ban.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood also imposed a £675 fine and told him he would have to retake his driving test before being allowed his licence back.
