Parklands residents rally round to hand Buckie Salvation Army food larder a boost
Care home residents have been doing their bit to support a local food larder.
Residents at Parklands and Burnbank care homes in Buckie have donated £100 to the town's Salvation Army food larder.
The money was raised through a Facebook competition to support their comfort fund, which helps pay for trips and entertainment, but the residents decided to give some of it to the food larder - which lends a helping hand to come of those most in need in the local area - instead.
Lisa Toogood, Wellbeing Coordinator at Parklands and Burnbank, said: "When we asked residents if they wanted to donate part of their comfort fund to a good cause, they immediately chose the Salvation Army to help support the great work they do with their food larder and free community lunches.”
Welcoming the donation was the Salvation Army’s Employment Development Co-ordinator for Moray and Aberdeenshire, Cara Kennie.
She commented: “We are very appreciative of the support, it makes a huge difference to delivering the provisions, and are grateful to Parklands for the fundraising they completed. Lisa said she seen the work we do, and they wanted to support us as a local charity.
“The larder continues to be well attended and we’ve been putting up extra signs recently about it. The Salvation Army have also supported us with more with emergency food parcels for those who need it.
“It’s open 11am till 1pm on Tuesdays at the hall while on Wednesdays the warm space with food open from 9:30am till 2:30pm.”
She added that the Employment Plus sessions she runs at the hall - which sim to provide tailored support to help people overcome obstacles and become job ready - is available for drop ins on Wednesdays at the same time.
