A care company that has a base in Macduff has recognised the work its staff has done during the challenges of the past year.

Mears provides supported living services to people in the area which enables them to live independently.

The coronavirus pandemic made it another tough year for the team with the workers going above and beyond to help those in their care.

Sara Wilkinson, local service manager said: “I want to say a huge thank you to each and every member of my care team for the exceptional service they have provided to the people they care for on a 24/7 basis throughout yet another challenging year.

"Supported living services from Mears enable people who need extra help to live independently, with the care of a team of specialists who keep them safe and supported round the clock in their own homes.

"Part of this care involves outings, social events, shopping, going to the cinema and social clubs.

"All of this is becoming a reality again after the challenges of lockdown restrictions, for which we are really grateful.

“As we head through the winter months, we will be constantly out and about supporting our service users in their own homes, no matter the weather.

"But we would encourage you all to look out for neighbours and those less able, who may be living alone and would appreciate a bit of extra help or company.

“Community support is even more important in dark winter days, as isolation can be a very difficult circumstance for many people."

Wendy Ashwell Macphail and a recently retired helper, Irene Troughton, from Mears in Macduff organised a vintage style tea party over the festive season for the people they look after locally on a regular basis.

Themed jumpers were the order of the day and a special meal enabled the individuals to get together, following the Covid rules.

Wendy, who is deputy service manager, said: “We have always held a festive party for our service users – and despite all the challenges of Covid we were once again able to hold a great event at the main office in Macduff with some delicious food for everyone and Christmas music in the background.

"Everyone put in a special effort to dress up in special festive jumpers to lighten up the day and a great time was had by all.”
