Car Clubs will now be given spaces in car parks run by Moray Council if they ask for them.

The council agreed earlier today that "if a Car Club requests a dedicated bay in a council operated car park this will be facilitated where there is sufficient spare parking capacity."

Nicola Moss, the council's transportation manager, said the move would help tackle both pollution and congestion on Moray's roads.

She added: "Car clubs offer good value for money for people who do not require a vehicle regularly.

"People pay a joining fee and book online when they need one.

"They are effective as a pay-as-you-go service."

There are currently two car clubs operating locally, while Enterprise Car Club operates nearby in both Aberdeen and Inverness.

Moray Carshare currently has over 200 members who share 14 cars in and around Forres, Findhorn, Kinloss, Aberlour and Craigellachie.

In addition, CoWheels runs two electric cars in Elgin.

Mrs Moss told the council's Economic Growth committee that Enterprise had been in discussion with the council about coming to Moray.

She added that all three car clubs have been growing over recent years.
