Brewdog has launched the first of six new initiatives.

In a social media post made this week, the Ellon headquartered brewer is invites people to exchange empty beer cans for shares.

The scheme goes live on Tuesday, February 25 in BrewDog’s 52 UK bars and will run until the end of April.

It will reward anyone who brings in 50 empty BrewDog cans with a company share voucher, subject to terms and conditions.

The initiative is an effort to encourage more sustainable business practices through incentivised recycling, the company said which will include a potential future scheme to recycle beer into other canned packaging.

Returned cans will be processed by a recycling company to return them to the packaging industry, save energy and reduce C02 emissions.

Alongside the ‘cans for equity’ scheme, which will also be rolled out in the brewery’s European bars from February 25, the company’s BrewDog Tomorrow scheme is seeking to recycle waste beer by distilling it into vodka and encourage home brewing.
