Banff Sailing Club held its annual Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Discover Sailing event on Saturday.

It proved to be a successful day where members of the public were able to try sailing for free.

Some were doing the activity for the first time while others had dingy and rowing experience.

Banff Sailing Club commodore Helen Robbins said: "It took place at Whitehills Marina where the club boats are temporarily based while the Banff Harbour repairs continue.

"The two boats went out in the morning into a slightly lumpy sea with some good winds.

"The one boat was lucky enough to see a group of dolphins swimming near to them, which was such a treat.

"The afternoon brought sunnier and calmer conditions, so the two boats had a wonderful sail over to Banff Bay and back.

"Everyone that returned had smiles on their faces and expressed their delight at the experience. 'That was fabulous' was one comment as soon as the person arrived back into the harbour."

"It was also a time to share information about the club and connect people up with communication routes to find out when the boats go out and how to crew with them."

The club welcomes new people all the time and anyone interested can contact secretary@banffsailingclub.co.uk or 07966549101 if they would like to have a go at sailing.

People can also visit www.banffsailingclub.co.uk, the group's Facebook page or the www.rya.org.uk/discoversailing website.
