THOSE who gave their lives in warfare have been honoured by communities across Banffshire during Remembrance services.

On Sunday services were held in towns and villages including Macduff, Portsoy, Aberchirder, Alvah and the memorial at Boyndie which commemorates RAF Banff Strike Wing.

At Banff, a poppy wreath was laid by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Patricia Seligman, youth organisations, community groups and Aberdeenshire Council.

On Armistice Day itself, wreaths were laid at the memorials at Whitehills cemetery.

It was the first Remembrance services for new Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson, who laid wreaths at Gamrie Churchyard, Macduff, Whitehills, Longmanhill, Boyndie and Whitehills cemetery.

The uniform he wore was the one that belonged to former Lord Lieutenant James McPherson, the predecessor to Clare Russell.

Mr McPherson’s family had given permission for its use.

Mr Simpson said: “I have always found that the days around November 11 are special in our local communities.

“A time of reflection and of sadness as we remember those who gave their lives, but in their memory, it is also a time of committing ourselves to making the world a better place.

“I, along with my deputies, represented Her Majesty the Queen and continued the practice of my predecessor, Mrs Clare Russell, by laying wreaths on all the war memorials in Historic Banffshire."
