A church building in Banff is set to be colourfully lighted up to raise awareness of support for young people with rare neurological disorders.

River Church will be taking part in World PVNH Disorder Day and will light up its historic building at Castle Street pink and yellow on Friday as part of the campaign.

PVNH stands for Periventricular Nodular Heterotopia a disorder which affects brain development.

It can cause seizures; learning disabilities; joint, pulmonary and gastrointestinal complications; and cardiovascular disease.

Another disorder is Subcortical Band Heterotopia (SBH) which again affects the brain during early development.

It can cause learning disabilities, seizures, weak muscle tone, loss of fine motor skills and behavioural problems.

PVNH Support and Awareness was set up to provide assistance to affected patients and families and to educate and raise awareness. It has organised the light up event.

A church spokesman said: "The River Church will join 26 landmarks across five countries, as well as the more than 550 families affected by neuronal heterotopia disorders such as PVNH and SBH, in the Paint It Pink and Yellow campaign to raise awareness for World PVNH Disorder Awareness Day."
