Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has hailed the “fantastic” UK vaccine roll-out after receiving his first dose in Macduff.
The UK has seen one of the fastest and most efficient roll outs of the coronavirus vaccine anywhere in the world.
Early investment in research and partnerships with leading pharmaceutical companies and educational institutes resulted in the development of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, which has proven to be one of the most effective against Covid-19.
Unlike in the EU, the UK roll-out has benefitted from quick but crucially safe approval of vaccines and an efficient nationwide rollout.
As a result, over half of all adults (59.1per cent as of March 31) have received their first dose of the vaccine.
MP Mr Duguid said:“I had my first vaccine jab a few days ago and I must say that the service at Macduff sports centre was professional and efficient.
“The vaccine roll-out has been a huge success and simply would not be possible without the resources of our UK Government.
“Our departure from the EU allowed us to act more swiftly than our European neighbours who are vaccinating at a much slower rate.
“At the time of writing, over 31 million people across the UK have received their first dose of the vaccine and more than 4.5 million have received both doses.
“We all must remember that the first dose takes 2–3 weeks to take full effect and we must all continue to follow the social distancing and hygiene rules as they are slowly and carefully relaxed.
“I strongly encourage everyone who receives their blue envelope to go get their jab”
