Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has said he hopes bookings at recycling centres will be scrapped as soon as possible after Aberdeenshire Council confirmed it was reviewing the system.
He has urged residents to have their say on the consultation into access at recycling centres.
It comes after Mr Duguid previously wrote to council chief executive Jim Savege asking for the system to be removed following a footfall decline of as much as 50 per cent at recycling centres such as Fraserburgh.
The review, which will run until October 17, will assess the booking system, restrictions on vans and trailers and the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system (ANPR).
David Duguid MP said: “This consultation by Aberdeenshire Council is a step in the right direction and I would urge residents to take part to ensure the correct outcome can be reached.
“Dozens of residents have voiced concerns with me about still having to book slots which is why I’m continuing to push for this to be changed.
“Once this review concludes in October, I hope the council takes the correct form of action and scraps the need for bookings as soon as possible to allow recycling centres to be fully operational again without any limitations.
“We are seeing a rise in fly-tipping incidents combined with a reduction in recycling centre footfall which highlights that something needs to be done sooner rather than later.
“We must all play our part in supporting the environment and I would encourage everyone to use their recycling centres.”
