Doric Film Festival calls on north-east filmmakers to help celebrate achievement
An award-winning event which showcases Doric language and culture through the medium of film has announced plans for a celebration in 2025.
The Doric Film Festival was recently crowned winner of the “Scots Cultural Project o the Year” at the 2024 Scots Language Awards and, to celebrate the achievement, plans are under way to host a celebration in June 2025.
The event at the Robert Gordon University will not only showcase the success of the festival over many years, but also provide a platform for filmmakers to display their work.
The search is now on for films on the theme: “Weel deen abidy” to be screened at next year’s event, alongside highlights and reminiscences from previous Doric Film Festivals.
It is hoped that the 2025 event will once again spark a diverse range of creative work in the form of short films by individuals, groups and schools in celebration of the richness and diversity of Doric culture in the region.
The acclaimed Doric Film Festival, which is supported by the Scottish Government, is the brainchild of award-winning Scots Radio director Frieda Morrison who created the platform to celebrate the Doric language and its cultural identity.
Frieda Morrison said: “We are immensely proud that our efforts to shine a light on some of the north-east’s creative talent resulted in us winning the title of Scots Cultural Project o the Year.
“This was only possible due to the wealth of talent that is evident among the entries every year, and this year will be no exception.
“We look forward to gathering next summer for a celebration befitting of what the Doric Film Festival, and all its participants, have achieved.”
